My Last Experience
My last experience at the writing center was a great one. I got to see an older tutor in action and I remember coming to him in the past. He was upbeat, very helpful and communicated well with me when I was his tutee. I was curious to see if his tutoring skills changed. We all walked to the tutoring space. He introduced himself to his tutee and began to go over the assignment. .He asked the tutee several questions regarding his paper. He wanted to know what the professor was looking for in his paper. The tutee told him and he began to read over the paper and wanted to see if it met his professor rules. The tutor gave the tutee feedback and started to correct what was wrong on his paper. He also allowed the tutee to find his own mistakes. He gave the tutee materials to help him with his paper. They worked together to find mistakes and he also allowed the tutee to go over it on his own. Once he was done he gave the tutor feedback on what he saw in his paper. The tutor continued to go over what he saw was wrong and what the tutee saw was wrong in his paper. He had good body language and was well spoken. He made the tutee feel comfortable right away. He was upbeat and very professional through the whole session. By the end of session the paper was completely fixed and I could tell the tutee felt confident about his paper. Overall this older tutor that I was fortunate to see has the skills that every tutor should have. LaGuardia is very lucky to have had him all these years in the writing center.
